DAY 5 - THE HIKE

Set out at 7 am for a 10-12 hour hike with our batteries completely recharged (NOT!).  Took a shuttle to Happy Isles trail head, and began what would turn out to be a 16 mile hike with elevation gain of almost 5000 feet to the top of Half Dome, elevation 8,836 feet.

Along the way we saw Bridal Veil Falls and Nevada Falls.  We also saw several deer, some of them way too close - but no bears (yet).

We took plenty of food and water, which was needed, as we ended up having to fill up and filter water twice out of the creek during the day.

Shelby was the winner, drinking close to 6 liters of water - and a few nature breaks along the way!

Robb ended up being the only one brave enough to climb the cables at the end and ascend to the very top of Half Dome (meeting a nice girl from Finland...) , and Brooke made it to the bottom of the cables but Shelby and Lisa were very proud of themselves as we nearly made it all the way, which many did not!

After limping home we had a meal of hot pizza and took nice warm showers -the best of our lives!
